Engagement Ring Trends in 2020

From what we are seeing in store, to scouring the internet, we’ve come up with 5 top trends for engagement rings in 2020.  You’ll notice a lot of these trends blend together into unique rings, which is the biggest trend of them all…unique and completely your own.

1) WARM TONES

Hearts On Fire Ring

While in recent years white gold and platinum were the popular metals, yellow gold is making a comeback.  And, not only yellow gold but rose gold as well.  A benefit to yellow and rose gold is that they both look great on almost all skin tones.

Yellow gold complements both diamonds and colored gemstones. Yellow gold is the purest and the most hypoallergenic of all gold types, which means it’s the safest bet if you have sensitive skin. Because it’s one of the oldest trends, it is also a go-to for vintage designs.

Rose gold is more durable than white or yellow because it is an alloy and infused with copper. This means that it is the most easily maintained over the course of a lifetime because it doesn’t tarnish as easily as white or yellow gold. A great perk of rose gold is that it complements everything with its beautiful tone and perfect hue.

Having a hard time deciding which to choose?  No worries! Brides are mixing rose, yellow and white gold in multiple bands to create a personalized look.

2) COLORED DIAMONDS AND GEMSTONES

Colored Diamonds and Gemstones

More and more women are looking for something other than a white diamond.

Colored gemstones and non-white diamonds are a great way to make simple and elegant styles even brighter and bolder.

Sapphires and other colored gems are becoming more and more popular.  Soft pinks, lavenders, and lighter shades of green and blue make for some serious stunners. Accent these shades with black diamonds or darker metals for an even edgier vibe. It is important to note that not all gems are durable enough for everyday wear, so make sure to visit with us before making a costly mistake.

Rustic diamonds have come on strong recently. These are natural gemstones that are formed with many inclusions, so they present a rustic look. Every rustic diamond comes with exclusive color and clarity, which makes it unique.  No other person will have a similar diamond.

Salt and pepper diamonds are intentionally chosen for their unique imperfections and spots, which create a speckled, one-of-a-kind look that’s reminiscent of a starry sky.  These diamonds can vary drastically in color, from pale opalescent gray to dark and charcoal and near black.

Women today want to stand out, and choosing colored gemstones enables you to express your own personal style and creativity in your engagement ring. The addition of color brings so much life and reflects the joy of finding a loved one with whom to make this kind of life commitment.

3) THREE STONE RINGS

             Three Stone Rings

Meghan Markle can be thanked for this trend, as she upgraded her band and solitaire to a three-stone engagement ring last year. The Three Stone Ring is said to represent a couple’s past, present, and future.  Most often it is a thin band with a large diamond or gem supported by two smaller gemstones. Center gemstones commonly include any shapes, from Cushion to Marquise. The two side gemstones have also become more daring, with shapes like Trillion, Baguette, and even Pear.

The three-stone rings allow you to be as creative as you like by incorporating different shapes, sizes, and even colors into the design. If you’re looking for a ring that is a perfect mix of classic and modern, a contemporary three-stone ring might be the right choice for you.

4) DRAMATIC STONE, DIFFERENT SHAPES, AND FANCY CUTS

It’s doubtful that any shape or cut will surpass the Round Brilliant diamond. However, wanting unique shapes and stones has become popular for women wanting something individualized. In case you are wondering what a fancy cut is, it is defined as any diamond shape that isn’t Round Brilliant. Diamonds and gemstones come in all shapes (Emerald, Oval, Marquise, Pear, Hexagonal, Triangle, Heart-shaped) and sizes.

Dramatic Stone, Different Shapes, and Fancy Cuts

Emerald cut, specifically, has been growing in popularity, as it boasts long clean lines with dramatic flashes of light. The emerald cut is known for its subtle sophistication and feels equal parts chic and modern. Oval, another cut on the rise, has a feminine and flattering cut due to its curves, elongation, and large spread.

A benefit to the Oval and Emerald cuts is that these extending shapes tend to appear larger than a normal Round or Square shape.  For example, the shape of an Oval has the same characteristics as a Round Brilliant, but due to its longer appearance, the eye tricks you into thinking it’s actually bigger than it is.

5) SOLITAIRE

Solitaire Ring

The minimalist solitaire, which took a backseat to the halo for many years, is back on top. Solitaire rings have one center stone accented by either a plain band or an understated pave style.  Pave diamonds along the band are where the extra sparkle comes in.

This ring setting is a timeless choice, and it looks gorgeous with all different gemstone shapes. Choosing an unconventional shape and opting for yellow or rose gold will keep this minimal look classic, yet interesting. Though this style is trending at the moment, it’s also absolutely timeless and is sure to stay in style for centuries to come.
