Jewelry Appraisals: You should know what it’s worth.
The most important reason to have your fine jewelry regularly appraised is for insurance purposes. Over time, jewelry metal, diamond and gemstone prices will fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. So it’s really important to keep an up-to-date appraisal of all your pieces. Few things are worse than having a beautiful piece of under- insured jewelry lost and not being able to replace it due to an outdated, under-valued appraisal. Most insurance companies will require a current appraisal for coverage. We recommend jewelry appraisals every 3-5 years to make sure you’re fully insured according to the current market values.
Our experience, continuing education and knowledge of the current marketplace, assure you a complete and accurate insurance or estate appraisal. Any Walters & Hogsett purchase comes with a complimentary appraisal upon request. For jewelry we have previously appraised, we can provide updated jewelry appraisals at a reduced fee.
Our appraisal fee is $75 per half hour, using our accredited GIA lab. We usually ask you to leave your pieces with us for 7 to 10 days. As long as your jewelry is in our possession, it is insured and kept safe in our vault.
Please note: Our lab currently is not doing outside appraisal work.
While we don’t currently offer outside appraisals, we can make a referral recommendation and answer general questions about the appraisal process.
