Holiday Jewelry Shopping 2018: The Definitive Guide
Every day is a perfect day for jewelry. However, one of the biggest times of the year for fine jewelry (and getting engaged) is, without a doubt, the holiday season. At Walters & Hogsett Jewelers, we’re here to provide everything you need to know to make this season merry and bright!
What are we really excited about this season? What’s really hot for this holiday? We promise that classics are always in-style and we found a few things for this list that will surprise and delight.
Always in style and a gift that lasts a lifetime, diamond stud earrings, diamond hoop earrings or the classic solitaire pendant continue to be the top of the list. If you’re looking for a bigger statement look, consider a diamond set in a halo style. This style, with small diamonds surrounding a larger stone, will give the appearance of a much bigger diamond. Remember one thing: Let the diamond speak to you. When you’re ready to purchase any piece of diamond jewelry, if it sparkles and catches your eye, chances are it will be loved by the person receiving it! A Walters & Hogsett favorite: Hearts On Fire.
Beyond classic diamond jewelry, the latest trends include some old favorites. This holiday season it’s all about being a little bolder. Asymmetrical hoops and abstract shapes are what’s popular. Believe it or not, mismatched earrings are a real fashion statement!
Ring in the holiday season with rings galore. Stacking is where it’s at for fine jewelry. Thin gemstone bands in various metals are very popular. Some of our favs are from Sethi Couture. Layer them like crazy! Chunky rings are also popular and worn on the middle finger or pinkie.
Looking to layer? 2017 was all about the choker, and this year is all about layered necklaces and chains. Pile them on. Yellow gold is still trending. Surprise! The biggest new (old) trend is pearls. We really haven’t seen them on the fashion pages or Christmas lists in a while, but, this year it’s all about statement pearls. And, since layering is so popular, consider wearing more than one strand. Because they are classic, a beautiful pearl necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings is a wonderful investment for your jewelry wardrobe.
Whether you’re naughty or nice, colored gemstones are becoming incredibly popular for bracelets, earrings, and yes, even for engagement rings. Designers like Kimberly Collins, Jude Frances, and Marco Bicego are masters of color and you’ll never go wrong with one of their pieces!
If you’re looking for something that no one else will have, then custom design is the way to go. A custom designed piece of jewelry says to the person opening the gift, “you are like no other.” It is the perfect expression of love. Because custom design takes longer to create, we always recommend (depending on the complexity), that you allow at least six weeks from design to completion.
An amazing timepiece will last a lifetime. People desire authenticity and disconnection. An automatic timepiece comes with a level of emotion and its own personality while becoming part of your everyday fashion statement. Watches are on our gift-giving must-have list for 2018 and speaks volumes about you. At Walters & Hogsett, you’ll find watch styles from Rolex, Baume & Mercier, and Tudor.
Popping the Question
December is filled with other gift-giving holidays and traditions. Of course, there’s Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza. However, the month of December is statistically the biggest month for getting engaged. In fact, 40% of all engagements happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day! But, the clear winner is Christmas Day, which is the single most popular day to get engaged! Christmas is a time to be with family and friends, so what better time to celebrate and share this special time. If you’re looking to get engaged during this time of year, you can start by visiting Walters & Hogsett. Check out our beautiful selection of engagement rings. After all, we are Where Boulder Gets Engaged and there’s a reason why. Our vast selection of engagement ring settings, loose diamonds and wedding bands will match every style and budget! And, if you’re looking for something completely unique, then you’ll want to consider speaking to us about custom designing the engagement ring of your dreams. Custom design is easy and fun. Style Advisor picks for the best places to spend a holiday night out (or in) in Boulder!
I love going to the St. Julien during the holidays. The fireplace in the lobby is a wonderful place to hang out and have a glass of wine. They also have live music on the weekends and their NYE party is amazing – if you have haven’t been, you should go this year!
Sanitas Brewing Company has an amazing IPA! It’s a great place to enjoy a snowy mountain view, beer, and tacos. You can’t beat it for a holiday happy hour in Boulder.
One of our go-to restaurants is the 1914 House in Niwot. It has a beautiful interior and the selection of wines is just to my liking. We love to sit by the firepit outside in early fall… it’s absolutely the best and so romantic! Of course, when the really cold weather hits, we grab a table inside. Snuggling next to my honey and having a delicious meal – what could be better?
Whether its why my girlfriends or with my husband, nothing beats Brasserie Ten Ten. Sitting in front of the windows, enjoying a glass of rose and watching the snow fall – a perfect afternoon during the holidays.
Black Cat is always a lovely place to go for a drink and dessert at the bar. Or, go all out for the chef’s menu! The atmosphere is so cozy and feels like you’re enjoying an evening in someone’s home eating a delicious meal and sipping a nice glass of wine.
One of my classic holiday go-to spots is Boulder Cork for great wine and a fantastic meal. The service is amazing and they are great at recommending wine pairings with menu options. We always opt for the chef’s special, with especially delicious offerings around Christmas. You can never go wrong with the Cork!
I love to cozy up to the bar at Oak for a late-night cocktail on a cold, snowy evening. Their festive atmosphere is always warm and inviting, a perfect place for a nightcap after a date night.
Last year, my husband surprised me after I got off work. He felt like I needed some holiday spirit and took me to The Mediterranean on Walnut Street. I loved the energy of the holidays there, especially when it began to snow on The Med’s outdoor Christmas tree.
For me, I want to keep it simple this year. Pick up the right cheese from Will at Cured, the right Napa Cabernet from Brett at Boulder Wine Merchant, grab a blanket and sit by the outdoor fire pit with my lovely lady on a slow Saturday night in December. Very Happy Holidays!
