There’s Nothing Like Getting Engaged In Boulder
There’s a reason why Walters & Hogsett is “Where Boulder Gets Engaged.” Not only is our selection as vast as our Flatiron mountain range, we believe every individual deserves an engagement ring as special and unique as their relationship. We’re dedicated to helping you find an exceptional engagement ring, which starts with today’s top designers or our Studio W&H custom designed just for you. Our favorites include non-traditional designers like Sethi Couture and Samantha Louise. Award-winning styles from popular designers like Hearts on Fire, Simon G. and Steven Kretchmer. The truth is, we love Love. And, we’re here to guide you through the process, so that it’s easy, and yes, fun!
What’s your style?
Prior to making any decision, our Walters & Hogsett Style Advisors will want to take the time to get to know that lucky person who will be receiving this engagement ring. We’ll be talking a lot about your personal style. Are you contemporary, very modern, classic, traditional or do you love that vintage look? Remember, this engagement ring is not only an expression of your love, it should be an expression of who you are. If you’re more traditional and classic, a solitaire on a simple band may be just perfect for you – and never goes out of style. There are endless options. And, you can begin your search right here. If it seems a little overwhelming, not to worry. That’s why we’re here! We’ll narrow the options for you. The perfect style, the perfect diamond, and yes, the perfect price.
Thinking about custom design?
Okay. Maybe, just maybe, you have your own creation in mind. There’s something exciting about creating a one-of-a-kind engagement ring with our CAD design programs or by working with an established designer to alter one of their rings. We will have you meet with our Style Advisors or our skilled artisans from the initial sketch to final concept. Or, maybe you found the perfect setting, but want to change those diamond side-gems for some blue sapphires. We see those little changes every day. And, it’s those little changes that make that ring uniquely yours.
The Custom Engagement Ring Process
Let’s start out with the fact that it’s easy and we’ll guide you through this journey. Several years ago, we admit, it would be a much bigger and arduous endeavor. Now, thanks to advances in technology, it’s much easier – and you get to play an active role in the creation of your dream engagement ring! CAD systems (Computer Aided Design) allow you to see your design in a 3D view, rendered as if it were complete. And today, it’s easy to tweak and make changes even at that stage of the game. But, if you want to know specifically what’s involved in creating a custom designed t ring, you can take a look at the process here. Already interested? Then let’s set an appointment and we can get the process rolling! We promise to make the custom design process fun (and a little informational) for you, while we’ll learn all about you and your spouse-to-be at the same time. We’ll guide you and make recommendations based on what we learn about you so your new ring can fit easily into your budget and your lifestyle.
I love the idea of a custom ring, but I’m not sure I can afford it.
A custom designed ring does not necessarily mean it will be more expensive. Nothing can be further from the truth. Rest assured, nobody will try to pressure you or talk you into making one of the most important purchases of your life something you can’t afford. We’ll discuss your vision, And, yes, we’ll discuss your budget. And, we’ll do everything we can to make sure you receive a ring you’ll love at a price you’re comfortable with.
How do I figure out a ring size?
The average finger size is a 6 for women and size 9 for a man, but to take out the guesswork, we recommend asking a friend or a family member if you can “borrow” a ring without the partner knowing. It’s a good way to keep the engagement a surprise – but you’ll need to make sure the friend or family member also agrees to keep mum on the subject!
Is custom work refundable?
Unfortunately, no. Custom designed jewelry involves metal, gems and labor furnished for a specific client. Custom jewelry is non-refundable and requires a partial (20% to 50%) deposit before the final work begins. Full payment upon receipt of custom work will happen upon your complete satisfaction.
Okay, I’m ready. What should I do next?

Rustic diamonds in the spotlight
Rustic diamonds in earthy tones are a trend we love. From an ice gray rose cut pear shape, to a rich mahogany opaque diamond, these are one-of-a kind diamonds that tell a story of natural beauty. We are using them in all sorts of ring styles from bezel set to halo, often with a warm matte metal to highlight these unique gemstones. The wedding band can highlight various gem shapes and the myriad of colors from orange to grey as another way to show your own natural Colorado style. If you’re looking for a more non-traditional ring style, we recommend you take a closer look to our favorite rustic designer, Samantha Louise.
Color is all the rage
Some say Princess Diana started the trend back to colored gemstone engagement rings. But, no matter who started it, we can all agree, color is a beautiful alternative to a white diamond engagement ring. A growing number of celebrities and the fashion savvy are opting from gorgeous, canary yellow diamonds to fancy colored diamonds. Rare, beautiful and certainly uncommon. But, the color rage is also achieved by considering precious other gemstones like sapphires, rubies and emeralds. Sapphires come in a magnificent array of colors such as yellow, peach, green, and pink. And rubies will range the spectrum of rich scarlet to pinkish reds. Other precious gemstones to consider are aquamarines, tanzanite and tourmalines, which tend to be a more affordable option. Want to know more about color? There’s lots to know. Thankfully, you’ve come to Boulder’s color experts!
Lab-Grown Diamond Engagement Rings
As you research diamonds, and prepare to make your engagement ring purchase, you may have seen information about lab created diamonds versus naturally formed diamonds. Some people may refer to lab created diamonds as “fake diamonds”, imitations or simulants, but this is incorrect. Lab-created diamonds share the same or similar chemical and physical properties as a natural diamond produced by the geological processes of Mother Nature. However, because of the contrasting conditions of natural and lab grown formation, lab grown diamonds display several features which allow them to be distinguished from natural diamonds. If you’ve been thinking in this direction, we have a series of important questions and answers you can find here.
Engagement Ring Trends
You’re armed and ready to pop the question. And you’re ready to purchase the ring dreams are made of.
Engagement rings come in all sizes, shapes and settings. Check out these top engagement ring trends we’ve put together to help you figure out which one is sure to get a “yes!
Oval Cut Diamonds
This beautiful deviation from the classic round center stone is quickly gaining traction due to its flattering shape and vintage vibe, especially when paired with a simple band.
Rose Gold Rings
Rose gold has been trending for a few years now and is showing no signs of losing ground. Feminine and flattering, rose gold is romantic and appearing in ring collections aplenty.
Those looking for a ring with a pop of color will be happy to hear that engagement rings featuring colored gemstones are staying in vogue. From subtle to striking, colored gemstones are sure to be a standout choice to switch up a classic engagement ring.
Not a classic type? Pear shaped diamonds in mixed metals scream modern and fashion-forward especially when paired with rose gold or set with pavé diamonds around the center diamond.
Stack It Up
When one just won’t do, ring stacks are a major hit. Look for wedding bands to complement nicely with “tiara” style bands that form half-halos around center stones. This style is worthy of a royal. One of our favorite designers for stackables is Sethi Couture!
Put a Twist On It
Love a timeless look with a little extra flair? Settings with twisted accents are unique in a more subtle and understated way.
When you still want a classic yet unique look, an east-west setting, where the diamonds are set horizontally, may be just the thing. Emerald and marquise-cut diamonds look especially beautiful when set this way.
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement, this trend has seen a resurgence in popularity. Although this is not a new look, choosing three similarly sized diamonds for the setting is the most updated way to wear it.
If you’re looking for a romantic look with a floral, organic style, rings with clusters of diamonds deliver!
This style, with two bands running parallel to each other and a gemstone separating them, is both dramatic and trendy. Your center diamond will look like it’s suspended while it sparkles.
Sophisticated brides to be will be drawn to this style, which wraps around the finger and has an open space instead of a center stone. This style allows for a lot of customization in both gemstones and their shapes.
The opposite of minimalist, bold bands are thick and meant to make a stunning statement.
Definitely not boring, mixed metals show off a creative spirit, especially when set with non-traditional gemstones.
Minimalist Round Cuts
Simply breathtaking, this trend is very popular for the classic bride-to-be who wants a style that’s pretty and not over the top.
